This agency has been causing quite a stir over the last few weeks, since March 13 that is. The MIAC collected information from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other government agencies and compiled reports that, supposedly, helped their officers identify terrorists and militia members (Wikipedia). A report titled The Modern Militia, released under the Missouri Sunshine Law, revealed, among others, that supporters of Ron Paul, Bob Barr, and anti-abortionists tended to be militia members. Blogsites have been having a field day with the information ever since.
Today, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch announced that the director of MIAC has been reassigned. Reportedly The Modern Militia report was destroyed and apology letters sent to those it offended. For many, the reassignment and the report destruction still leaves problems unsolved. Libertarian Party spokesman Mike Ferguson believes that an investigation is warranted. He feels that the mentioning of specific third-party candidates names is unacceptable. Mid-Missouri ACLU President Dan Viets also had concerns and stated, “I just think they’ve gone too far here.”
