Sadly three black female rhinos were shot at the Imire Safari park. All three were hand-raised for twenty years and one was just days away from giving birth.
Three masked camouflaged men burst into the park and shot the three rhinos. No motive is known for the shootings though it was described as “wanton destruction.”
Already the black rhinos are on the critically endangered species list and experts are concerned about this senseless crime.
Charles Hamilton, whose family owns and operates the park, is deeply sadden and distressed but has stated, “It’s heart-breaking but we are determined to give these animals a future, and the breeding programme will continue.”
